hmmm interesting he was all for sleeving when i spoke to him early last year...

yeah you couldnt replicate that here for those dollars spent...

If your chasing more power then FMIC would definately be the go.. Who cares if it moves ur repsonse a little to the right... If you reverse ur inlet manifold you can save a good 1.5- 2 metres worth of piping...

Yeah I'd like some more info on this to be honest. Why do all the local builders swear by sleeving where Ron is saying the block will be fine?

because everyone is scared of the strength of the 257 due to a lot of americans wacking 24 psi through a gt30r without a tune / a backyard tune, and having failed engines....

my theory anyway - blame the americans

it was a phone conversation so there is no proof in writing unfortunately. I told him what turbo i was running (GT35R) and the setup.

It is fine to run an engine without sleeves, everyone that owns a 2.5ltr sti do this all the time, and at standard boost and other conditions then this will be fine. But when your pushing alot more HP through the standard liners you increase the chance of ovailing the bores..

It may take many 1000kms for this to occur if your not pushing the car all the time. but it will eventually happen...

Stick with the TMIC - FM's are seriously over-rated. You are making excellent power & torque with the TMIC.

This is the reply to my initial email when I spoke to Ron about what I should do :-

"Gavin,

Are you interested in cams for your heads, or do you want to continue to use the stock Spec C cams? I can provide a camset that will work very well with your turbo kit and help to make even more hp.

You don't need my signature series block, the GT28 turbo does not that kind of block strength. It can not produce the boost that this block is capable of handling.

I would suggest my track series shortblock. It would be much better suited for your application.

I can ship a shortblock to any International airport in Australia for $350.

Ron"

So I took his advice....

cheers

For the work my car does it should be fine, 90% of it's work is going to work and home, with the occasional WOT...

And I agree, I reckon any engine builder, even in Aust would find some way to weasle out of any warranty, if something went wrong.
