Handling on a gc8
hey guys
for those who are 'keeping it classic' and are pumping money into their gc8s (instead of cheating and buying a new sti :P)... i'm looking at my options when it comes to handling mods. i believe there is a rx guy on here who is very enthusiastic about them lol anywho, i have a my00 and am trying to figure out what is going to give my car the 'edge' when going around corners....really bad pun... things i have in mind, and seem to be popular: whiteline....cusco.... front & rear swaybars - what thickness should i go for? anti-lift kits...does anyone have one fitted; what is comfortable? coilovers - tein?? any preferred types here? what should i look for? bear in mind guys, this car is my daily, so i dont wanna go all-out race spec... but i'm prepared for some sacrifices there's still alot of researchin' for me to do b4 i splash any cash comments, advice please |

if you can afford cusco, get it.
thickness depends on what you want. generally people go a thicker bar on the rear. cusco vs. whiteline, i think the cusco bars are strong (when comparing the diameter). alk, just get a whiteline street one. they come in comfort, street and race. race is pretty intense for the street. get a whiteline roll centre kit. coilovers. teins are alright. hsd and what not. try the other mods before you drop cash on coilovers. |

sway bars about $200 alk, you can get cheap on ebay sometimes. there is a guy on ebay who auctions new alks. i paid $110. those are whiteline prices. ooer, also forgot. make sure you get some bracing aswell. h-brace for the front. |

If your on a budget, these are of reasonable quality. Some people on here have these fitted.
Front/Rear Sways & 'H' Brace $230.00 http://www.ultrex.com.au/subaru-wrx-...y00-p-200.html

Version 6 Sti inverted struts (jws) - or new standard shocks
Whiteline control springs (40mm lower- progressive rate) Whiteline ALK Whiteline rear subframe lock kit Whiteline roll centre correction kit Cusco Sway bars 24mm front, 22 mm rear Good alignment (Wheels World) That's what's under my Sti, streetable, minimal body roll, wicked turn in on corners. Doesn't punch you in the kidneys over bumps like coil overs either.

Also my REAR sway is 24 and the front 22......I was tired yesterday and not thinking straight! overall feeling is better turn in (lot less understeer), balanced and predictable. I run my rear at it's stiffest but I'm using plastic links as they're supposed to be more progressive than alloy links.
