Aus got the 28's in all aus delivered v & vi's.
it's the only engine difference between jdm and Aus bar the remap for 95 ron in the vi's.
Jdm Sti vi got the 29.

What was factory on the S201 a 29?

It's proactive maintenance rather than reactive mate and it's the best way to do it.

Plus it will save you having to do the T/belt job again once the engine is in the car (pain in the ring!).

No offence taken Ramon!

I went for a vf29 after my factory vf28 squeeled inpending death....

The info I have is as follows:

IHI VF28
(425cfm at 18psi, 250-325whp, Bolt-On)
This is the standard equipment turbocharger used on the JDM V5 Subaru Impreza WRX STi.
Expect to achieve full boost with the proper mods and a quality tune between 2800-3300rpms.

IHI VF29
(425cfm at 18psi, 250-325whp, Bolt-On)
This is the standard equipment turbocharger on the 99-00 JDM V6 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. The VF29 is nearly identical to the VF24, with the same compressor and exhaust housings. However, the compressor wheel in the VF29 has been changed slightly(updated). The changes made to the compressor wheel in this model are generally viewed as improvements, and as such, this unit is typically chosen over the VF24. Has a different location for the pressure hose on the wastegate actuator.
Expect to achieve full boost with the proper mods and a quality tune between 2900-3300rpms.

Same/same minor design update is all that changes.

okay so this is saying that for all jdm version 5's including sti and type ra's all shared vf28's and for version 6's only the jdm sti's had the 29's and somehow the ra's + + + got back the 28's? im confused.

im sure its one of those funny subaru quirks we will never get to the bottom off.

Yeah I don't know.....

I'd have thought the S201 would have had the vf29! when was it built?

I only just noticed the 28 spools earlier....maybe that's why the special, specials got it?

the 201 was the last of the gc8's, only built to order remember. they started around mid may of 2000 (so the story goes). i have yet to see any evidence that they built the 300. the higest build number i have seen to date only went to 88.

300....this is sparta!!! hahaha sorry couldn't help myself

what's to say the "sti" tmic wasn't swapped out for a "wrx" one. people pay good money for "sti" intercoolers, especially if the fins are still standing upright viagra spec!

99-00 Wrx & Sti use the same cooler anyway, plain silver core, some had a Tuned by sti decal some didn't (it was stuck on the front strut brace instead, like mine & Fobz).

Would be interesting to find out whty the S201 has a vf 28 though?

I don't suppose anyone will really know.

Yep, i thought JWS swapped it for the standard WRX one to make extra profit. I really hate the fact that the paint is peeling off the intake manifold. My engine bay would look much better without the shotty paintwork. Might try and remove the whole lot.
