I wouldnt have even let RAC take it to their workshop.
I would have got it towed stright to prefered workshop. but at this stage mate for the price of a tow truck get it taken somewhere else. Seriously it could be as simple as the radiator. They could fix that test your engine and say your fine. Dont take rac's word on it. Just becuase their little meter detected CO doesnt mean it is. And even if they are corrrect Id still rather a known workshop do the work. Which Rac building did it goto. If it was Osborne park then its about 500meters down the road to west racing. Do your wallet and ya self the favour dude and get it down the road. |

those, co testers are pretty spot on, when it comes to head gaskets gone.

Don't mean to defame RAC but my girlfriend's first car had random stalling issues (automatic).. when it finally got towed into RAC, was told that ignition leads needed replacing.. she was billed $360..
The same day i drove it home, the problem came back again.. So after being stranded for 2 hours and blocking off traffic and pissing off others.. it was towed to a "Caberretor Specialist" somewhere in Jandakot. Within 20mins it was diagnosed as a faulty ignition module and fixed within the next 45mins.. $300 all up.. including new fuel filter.. Car has been running like a dream ever since.. alot smoother... So yea.. Did I also mention that the service personnel handling the billing at RAC flirted with my girlfriend too ? |

Oh by the way, I noticed no one 'thought outside of the box' and suggested that if the head gasket blew then it could over pressurise the cooling system which may have casued the the hole in the radiator??
So it could be a correct diagnosis after all with the third hand non mechinaicla information coming from the owner confusing the issue? Any updates on the repair?

radiators can handle a fair amount of pressure, thats what there made for. but your right not impossible. but think its unlikely to happen in this case.

same thing happened to me after a month of owning the car. Luckily id just pulled into home and i was lucky to smell the coolant as i was about to head out again. I was told i wouldve fucked the engine if id kept going. I didnt see the temp spike and didnt have much steam coming out.
around $1000 for the job just got genuine subi radiator. Good as gold now |
