Default :( fuc*#$(@*#$ wrx!!!

So driving my WRX to work today.. no sign of any issues, look down at the dial cluster just as about to enter the free way, temperature gauge is THROUGH THE DAMN ROOF . Above high. I immediately smell coolant, and see steam rising through the bonnet. So I kill the engine straight away and pull onto the side of the road. Steam billows out and I wish it was smoke as at least the fucking thing would catch fire and burn to hell! (and hopefully covered in insurance) but no it doesn't its just steam.

So I let it sit for a minute and open the bonnet and see coolant everywhere. 1 hour sitting at the side of the road and waiting for the RAC (which I am getting to know the consultants by first name) and it is taken to the RAC service centre (which doesn't fill me with confidence) and they tell me to go home and will call me with the results.

SO what do you reckon? Cooked engine.. 5000+ PROBABLY!. This car has been nothing but issues since I baught it. Low miles + full service history really don't mean anything at all. Perhaps I just have had bad luck with the fucking thing and after this it will be as good as gold.

PRAY FOR ME I REALLY MEAN IT PLEASE PRAY that it is not a cooked engine. If it is not I will sell the thing as GOD is trying to tell me to buy a push bike instead. I simply cannot afford 5000+.

probably just a burst hose, or a split tank on the radiator. I would be suspecting one of those being the weaker link first, before having a cooked engine... at least u turned it off straight away.

could you see any leakage from anywhere, or any signs of where the coolant was coming from?

Temp sensors doing their job...

Sounds like you might have managed to capture it in time. Hopefully so. Dont worry excessively until you get the word though... They are sturdy little buggers at the best of times. Was it a pipe that blew off/split or something? Because im thinking you would have noticed a puddle of coolant on the deck before you set off.

But yeah - wait it out. Worst case scenario, replace said broken bits with better ones...

Itll work out.

Brent.

Did they kick it in the guts to see if it turned over when they got there. If it turned over there is a good chance you will have got away with it.

The time to worry is when you get a sudden spike and then the gauge drops ( you will probably not be looking at the right time to see it ). Once the coolant level drops to far the temp probe will not read a high temp. If its still reading high it means it still has coolant and they are pretty tough.

If she is rooted Look at this and make the most of it.

They said that they hooked it up to some sort of computer and measured carbon dioxide within the coolant.

Personally I wouldn't be giving it to RAC to fix...
