They're a Bosch patent sensor design made under license by Hitachi.
 I agree with the heat shock idea but I've got the long process west cai on the car so I don't know how it would have gotten a splash..... maybe condensation in the cai? Anywhoo, I was just posting up another my 99-00 Maf failure...but with a different failure mode to what I've come to expect. And Yes I am Awesome.....
