subaru specialist, never heard of the term boost spike before

only get 2 or 3 rex's come in a week

and only a 2nd year apprentice

Had a problem with boost spike when flooring it on he freeway in 4th and 5th gears. This only started when i had my clutch replaced. Checked my turbo vacuum hoses and blow off valve return hose. found one of the vacuum hoses was loose and the blow off valve hose was clamped and restricted. Could be as simple as that, hope you solve the issue

"Boost Spike" = Boost exceeding a set target for a instant.

I.e Car tuned and set up for 15psi....But it spikes momentarily to 18psi (usually a midrange over shoot).........
This can be bad if the car is on the verge of detting @ 15 psi......that 3 psi spike can induce leaning out, detonation and pop your engine.
