Default Nasty engine oil leak.

Hi all,

Ive got a 99wrx which now has an oil leak from the front of the engine.

i believe it drips down through the timing belt cover, and onto the exhaust pipe infront of the engine. (quite smokey at the lights when hot)

i have checked the oil filter and sump bolts which are tight and no signs of oil.

The oil pump is behind the timing belt yes? could/would it be coming from there?
does the oil pump often fail / leak like this?

where else could it come from?

Im planning on doing the timing belt soon anyway (190,000kms), so will do the oil pump while im there and see if it fixes it.

Where is the cheapest place to buy genuine subaru parts? (timing belt, and oil pump.)

cheers, Steve.

could be ur rocker covers, very common on subarus to leak.
if you want genuine, the only place is any subaru place, but some of the aftermarket stuff is just as good, and alot cheaper.

If its from the front of the engine it will be most likely the Front main seal on the front of the Oil pump or the Cam seals.

Yep, its from the front of the engine. i dont believe its the cam seals, as its from the front middle of the engine, so most likely the crankshaft seal.

Is this seal part of the oil pump? or can it be replaced separately?

cheers, Steve.

May even need a speedy sleeve if the seal is leaking that bad, unless you position the seal in a slightly different spot to avoid a repeat. That is, if it is the front crank seal...
