Question 02 STi box/clutch?? - only for the experts :P

This is a 6 speed box and unsure of the clutch type/condition.

Sometimes when changing from 3rd or 5th to 4th gear it clunks - now I gather this might be syncro. If so, how much im I looking at to fix this?

Only recently, when shifting down 4th to 3rd to 2nd to 1st and even sometime when going in reverse. I hear a bit of a light grinding noise for about 2 seconds and it sounds like the clutch is not engaging correctly even though I have shifted down and the gears are engaged.

Any Help regarding possible reasons is appreciated.

Drain the box and get some fresh fluids in there. Clean the magnet on the drain plug as well. Go from there first. Fluid wise, different ppl have different preferences. Redline, Motul etc.

Maybe check clutch cylinder as well?

Redline Lightweight shockproof is my favourite oil for 6 speeds.

If switching to redline... Give it some time and undo the 2 drain plugs and let it drain ALL night long. Redline does not mix well with the remnants of the old oil.

Also check the fluid in the clutch hydraulics. Bleed it if necessary.

I have changed the oil (Motul 75W-90) feel a tiny bit better but the noise is still occasionally noticeable. Im thinking it could be the clutch as it sometimes revs a bit when changing gears.

For Example:
When shifting from 2nd to 3rd to 4th around 3000 Revs and while pressing the clutch to change gears, the RPM goes up to 3,500/4000.. Any ideas??

good test to do if you think your clutch is on it's way out is, go along say 40km/hr put it into fith so theres load on the engine, have your foot flat to the floor, then kick the clutch if it revs out, when you have taken your foot off, then your clutch is slipping and will need replacing, if it just bites straight away, then your clutch is fine.

That restrictor on the slave cyl shits me. Is it fitted to stop you dumping / side steping the clutch. I appears to let the clutch out slower if it is fitted

An evening lost tonight trying to get a good clutch peddle on my 6 speed

I tried doing this and the clutch didnt slip at all. The noise is still there every now and then which still piss me off. Its more of a vibrating kinda sound when shifting down. Will do a couple more checks and let uz know.

Gearset chatter !?

...the 6 speed isn`t a quiet box !, constant mesh chatter can be terrible with an aftermarket clutch(and still present with a stocker)

Smurf snot ftw....it works(hides all sorts of issues) !
