Default Rattle when coasting

Hey guys,

just after some advice. I'm getting a rattle (a metallic resonant sorta rattle) when I leave the clutch engaged but with no throttle at about 3000 rpm. It sounds like its coming from the gearbox region.

As soon as I step on the clutch, the noise stops - and it only happens when I'm off the gas. Any application of throttle and the noise stops. The gearbox still feels fine. I'm thinking a bearing of some kind.

Thoughts?

Darren

Same issue as me, let me guess..

Jun Flywheel + Exedy Clutch?

Here's something taken from the official Exedy website

"The drivability will be similar to a regular clutch, however drivers may experience increased pedal effort, slight shudder and increased cabin noise due to the performance characteristics of the clutch. All of our clutch discs have high capacity sprung centre dampers to reduce the drivetrain shock and impact."

Also if you troll around the internet a bit, a few forums also rants on about the JUN flywheel increasing noise within the cabin around the 2500 - 3000 RPM area under coasting conditions or light load within the same RPM range.

I would be interested to find a solution to this issue, maybe someone with a standard rebuilt clutch with the JUN flywheel could comment on this issue?

Other then that i would say the only other thing to do would be to get over the noise and drive it as it is...

ahh yes.. i've also been told it could be signs of the gearbox starting to die also.. but to me none of these noises were present with my stock running gear.. so it leaves me a little dubious about the whole situation regarding my gbox.

You've hit it on the nose Pete, I have that exact combo. What is worrying me though is I think the noise is getting worse. Are you getting the same noise - almost like a heat shield of some sort is resonating?

Darren,

Yep, exact same noise..

Here's a bit more info from Exedy.. I might need to take it up with my clutch installer now.

A few people off the MRT forums have reported that lubricating the spigots have solved the issue. Also a few people off nasioc have said exactly the same thing regarding the exedy range of clutches.

What would cause noise when engaging the clutch?

Lightly depress the clutch pedal and if you hear a grinding or squealing noise you may have a concern with your release bearing or your clutch assembly.

Check Release bearing

Check clutch assembly for wear. Replace as necessary.

If the noise is evident when engaging the clutch, the most probable cause will be a faulty or incorrectly lubricated spigot bush/bearing
