Default Diff cooling, capacity and catch can !!

...had a theory about my diffs dying because of excess heat up under power(read doing skids, drifting and holding it out @200+ ..on private roads/drag strip )....seems R160`s dont like 450hpatw much.

So this is what I came up with, rough and ready backing plate with ~700mls of extra capacity in oil(I`ve squeezed 2100mls in there ~20mm overfill, std is 800mls of oil !) with cooling fins. Then i added a catch can on top to stop oil getting bealched out(small medicine bottle stuffed with foam)

Time will if this helps.... hope so cause I`m getting stick of finding and swapping out diffs every week !

Yes it is rough(no PS tho...that would be epoxy resening tupperware to a cut up backing plate ;P)...the last diff was also built from ~4 broken ones so its nothing flash(bin job as I have another coming to go in with cusco guts and axels etc)

Proof of concept is all I`m after here...rough prototype.....but nigger please 2100mls of oil in a R160 diff that doesn`t spit out at all @180+kmph(to much traffic for more testing....on the private test strip ) great sucess !

You could also run an inline pump from the drain through a cooler then back into the filler bung.

I joked about it at the time, running a mechanical fuel pump off a CV joint lobe, ghetto spec! We discussed whether a cooler plumbed from the filler to the drain would circulate via convection?
