Hey guys

I have a 01 bug eye and recent my car started having crackling sounds at around 1000 rpm either accelerating or decelerating. I heard this when i was pulling onto my drive way. If I tickle the throttle a bit to about 1000 rpm, there is a soft rattling/ crackling sound. Sounds like having small rocks in a washing machine.

The sound seem to be coming from the engine. I would like to ask what can casue this sound? My car was serviced by RMS about 4 and a half months ago.

When u hit high revs does it get louder?? Let's hope it's the heat shields, pretty common on scoobys

Heat shield is my guess.

Hey guys 4 the replies~ Just a quick update, after listening to it more closely this morning. The sound seem to be coming from under the car at the middle. A Norm Butler TBE was installed a few weeks ago. I suspect its a heat shield around the exhauts, because it perfectly fine if I don't tickle the throttle and when I do that sound comes.

if you can crawl under your car..go under, get some vise grips and just bend them where ever is rattling

if its not the heat shield it may be your cat in the up-pipe, i had the same problem i went mad trying to find the same noise, untill i found out the up pipe had a cat in it.
