Default Replacing Nuts - when replacing struts?

hi all

hope all had a happy and safe easter

ok i'm looking at replacing the struts on my 1999 WRX

i have purchased KYB AGX adjustable struts

and i was looking in my service manual i brought off ebay (i think it's a USA manual) - so could be my problem

but it states i have to replace the 3 top nuts that hold the strut to the body and the 2 lower nuts holding the strut to the wheel hub ..

but the spare parts guy hummmmed and haaarrred and said "i don't think so"

has anyone else come upon this problem ?

if so .. .what did u do ?

thanks

Justin

use the old ones
have a look for any stress marks, damage, stretched threads etc
they should be fine
if it were a race/rally car I would say get new ones

If you really want to get some new ones, just take 1 of your old ones down to Coventrys Fasteners or a place like that, Or take 1 of your new shocks down.

When I put the coilovers into my old S13 I replaced the top nuts with high tensile, was just a sort of piece of mind thing.

Not needed in my opinion but as stated above pop up to Coventry's and get some replacements for piece of mind.

Most important is don't over tighten, EVO spec are 33 ft lbs for top strut nuts assume same for WRX, most people over tighten them and snap the stud, a torque wrench is a good investment.

yeah i wouldn't bother unless they are rounded off. If they were that much of an issue it would be in the 100,000km service to replace suspension nuts.

As above, don't tighten too hard or you'll snap studs with your huge arms
