Starting issues
Hey all,
Finally, after a year of building this new engine and 4 months off the road when the old engine spun a big end, the beast is back and running on the road. We now have the car idling and running and ASG have put on the run-in tune @ 4PSI and limited to 5500RPM. When running the car goes great, pulls hard and is a lot of fun. We have ironed out a lot of kinks eg. car not starting etc. but the problem now is that when the car is cold it takes a bit of cranking to get it going and when the car is hot it wont start at all! So here is what we have got under the hood: It is a 2.2ltr block from a Liberty with Wyseco forged pistons and 257 rods. The heads are from an 2.5ltr 05 STi and we have removed the AVCS. The cams are 272deg 10mm lift Kelford - non AVCS and the Cam wheels are from 2002 non AVCS bug eye. It has a lightened fly wheel and the ECU is a V1-2 Apexi PowerFC. The coils are now 2002 with built-in igniters, the standard igniter has been removed. The standard cam angle sensor has been grafted back onto the heads and I have spent a long time checking that the air gap is correct. The inlet manifold is from a 99 Forester and the Idle control from the 94 has been fitted to the manifold where the Forester idle step motor goes. The standard 94 throttle position sensor has been fitted to the 99 throttle body. The fuel lines have been changed so that the fuel runs from the center then both rails get equal fuel - a home made parallel fuel system with 550cc injectors. It now has a Sard fuel regulator set at 40PSI. The turbo is a VF43 and we have fitted a Z32 AFM. The engine has done about 300KMs and when the engine is running it runs smooth crisp nice. ASG have been more than helpful in sorting out our problems with getting the engine to idle and start properly. The last thing they suggested to get it to start was removing the two STD PRV that I had fitted on the the rails and fitting the Sard PRV. So, can anyone of you keyboard mechanic ninjas suggest anymore ideas to get The Rexy to start properly?

hey there ... it sounds to me like a tune issue or fuel delivery ... have you checked fuel pressure and flow with a master gauge ... might have the pressure with out the flow ... or i could be way off ha ha

Replaced the wiring to the fuel pumps and it still didn't start properly. It did need to be done though!
Replaced the cam angle sensor and it now works. Starts hot and cold. Thanks all! Time to get some KMs on this engine and get it tuned!!

Not after putting the 6-speed in. 6-speeds are awesome.
