Big brakes
Guys,
Interested in knowing some theory from the experts. The more pots a brake caliper has this just means the more even pressure on the brake pad asfaik?? Normally a 6-8 pot calliper is larger than say a 4 pot calliper?? Now i have 4 pot sti brembo brakes and wondering if going to a larger pot calliper if there is a benefit to this?? Or is it the brake pads that will dictate how well the car pulls up?? Also is a say a racing calliper system like AP racing STI 4 pots or WRC callipers better than say a street calliper such as a brembo STI 6 pot (off ra-r)??

Bigger ( more calipers ) has more pressure on the brake pad to the discs, hence better stopping performance. Stay with the 4 pot STi brembo and get better pads =)

So im assuming then, you might be able to stop better with bigger callipers but then you are limited to how good tyres you have in addition??

Yep, tyres will play a major role here. If you can't grip the road it doesnt matter how big your brakes are.

YES! Everything must be thorough

Ah yes that what i thought. So when upgrading the fronts should you also upgrade the rears? I knwo the majority of the braking force is from the fronts but if you dont do the rears would you stuff up the brake bias??

Brake efficiency is all about heat Tino. There must be a fine balance- too cold, pad material may not work, too hot... nothing will work and wear and tear will go through the roof!
As Stace suggests- friction effiency is what more pots/ larger brakes attempt to address. Distributing the job accross several points, over a wider distance in theory attempts to keep heat under control etc. Not all "big brake" packages do this efficiently though... sometimes a smaller quality setup can out-do many of the big bling crap. (Eg- a larger inneficient item can take much longer to shed stored heat etc).

Or is it the mechanism that will be the deciding factor the same between a race APracing caliper and a street APracing caliper as a direct comparison?

Difference might be weight.
The race ones are forged ali where as the more street orientated ones are cast.
