Default Drive-by-wire to throttle cable conversion

Is this just a matter of swapping over the throttle-body and intake manifold and installing a cable & linkages to the pedal (and of course telling the ECU what's happened)??

Is there a quick and easy way of doing this or is it a recipe for disaster?

Not that simple as you will need to alter the ECU and I'm not sure what that entails with MoTeC...

AFAIK the motec in your car was a Gold box with DBW module on the side (they didnt have 'tec with DBW support before the '06 STi)

Conversion shouldn't be too hard, just getting a Spec C or similar throttle body with cable and swap everything over would be the idea but best to check with the usual workshop to see whats compatible

Stace and I did it to my car.
I reckon you'd be better off doing what muggz suggested but just getting a whole spec c manifold and selling yours complete. then the pedal and cable etc. Maybe chat to jap wholesale, i think the my06 spec c was cable so you might be able to source the whole swap in one hit. Then you just need to set the 0 and 100% tps in the MoMo

Yep MY06 Spec C was indeed cable...Fats should be able to give you the lowdown on conversion requirements...

correct, you will need the upper portion of a 01+GD cable throttle manifold + throttle cable plus the standard GD brake/accel pedal assembly.

on the motec, you change the TPD/TPD2 inputs to a new calibration.

pardon my asking, but what advantages does throttle cable have over drive by wire?

a cable throttle gives you total control of throttle movement, where dbw sometimes isnt as responsive.
