Default Help! Air filter problem?

Hi guys,

So I have a problem in regards to the lack of power of my MY09 WRX.
Just had my 12,500 km service, and few weeks prior to getting my service, I went out of the city for a drive and notice a significant drop in power especially around 3rd and mainly 4th-5th gear. Also notice that my cold air intake sucks in a lot of air but doesn't rev as fast as it use to.

Notes made by Subaru Dealer:
- Check boost rising rapidly to 15psi and holding
- Suggest removing after market products and then check performance

Also, he recommended me to remove the CAI and Boost Gauge.

Current mods:
Invidia CBE , Blitz Short Ram Intake, and Prosport Boost Gauge

Any suggestions? I'm considering whether to go back to my stock air intake.

Thanks in advance.

Subaru are generally idiots, ask a workshop who aren't used to dealing with late model stock cars and actually have to have some brains about them to nut things out.

I bet MMS, ASG etc could tell you whats wrong in 20 minutes

Take all your mods off, reset your ECU (with an ECUDataScan that a PWRX'er might kindly lend you) and try it then.. I guarantee it'll be fine.

If you're going to have induction and exhaust mods fitted, you need a tune. The most I'd be installing without any tune is a cat back exhaust, any more than that and you will more than likely need some ECU tweaking.

P.S. WHY did you take it back to the dealer with mods installed? They would have noted it down and any mechanical issues which may arise in the warranty period could be attributed to them.

Simon says, that's the first excuse they will give.

As said , without a tune problems like this will arise
the computer will put itself into limp mode, and bring power level etc down across the board
and the modifications would of definately been noted, as with all cars in warranty period we are told to note any mods

Hmm.. I think I'll try and replace the CAI to the stock air filter in the next few days.. see how that goes..

As with the mods, yeah I thought it was O.K as I have very minor mods for my car without tune etc. and they're all very easily replaceable with the stock parts.. that's why I didn't think too much into it.

Thanks for the response

--To be honest it drives fine as a daily, but only when I drive it out of the city is when I can feel the difference in power.
