Default Yet another Problem

Hey peps,

just been for a drive and as i stopped at a T junction to wait for traffic i could see steam/smoke coming from my engine bay through my bonnet scoop.

When i got home i left my car running and had a look to see where this steam/smoke was coming from and it seemed to be coming from just behind and under the coolant resivour.

ive just changed the oil and there is no leaks there what so ever, but i don't know if i have a line leaking thats connected to the turbo or my coolant resivour itself is muffed.

suggestions on what i could do to diagnose this problem would be greaty appreciated as i don't want to keep driving and have my car break down or worse, then engine blow for some misterious reason.

cheers, Jason

coolant leaking onto downpipe
and you say you have no oil leaks so it can't be rocker cover gaskets

i do have a small leak but it is on the sump, which would just drop on ground.

pretty sure it would be coolant, but where it's coming from i wouldn't know, i can't explain the smell, i know one thing is, it's not oil, so it may just be coolant, but how would i diagnose where the leak is actually coming from?

Coolant usually oxidises white, after your engine cools down see if you can see any traces and try and back trace from there

cheers marc, i'll do that as soon as it's cold as i have to hook up a oil pressure gauge anyway. and don't have a clue where this would go. (the oil pressure sensor that is). if you can help with that too that would be awsome, its a 1997 MY98 GC8 WRX

for the oil pressure, ideally you should use a sandwich plate between the oil filter and the engine. that way you can keep your factory sensor too. check out my build thread for a picture.

Sandwich plates are a failure/leak point.

there is an unused oil gallery plug on the top of the block between the turbo & throttle body, buy the $10 subaru gallery adapter & install your sensor there.

Search, it's been covered at least three times before.
