Corn Juice
So I did a search and the answers to my specific queries came up fruitless.. I know Ramon has dabbled in it so I’m sure he’ll have the low down, but what would be required to run E85 in a Subaru?
I’m thinking: - Injectors - Fuel pump - Fuel line changes Would all these changes be necessary for a 50:50 mix (U98 + E42.5)? I want to smash boost and timing in and crack the 400 at the hubs mark at some point, and a few of the Antilag boys have had massive success running E85 (and E42.5 50:50 mix) in their Nissans.. seems its an unknown quantity in a Subaru though. One of the Antilag boys runs 50:50 in his R34 GT-t, and it made 420rwhp on a stock RB25 Neo with a GT35R.. downsized to GT30R, retuned with the 50:50 fuel, and it made 505HP.

Budget for double the fuel running e85. So if you have 1000cc inj, get some 2000cc and associated pumps, lines etc.
Check the motec can run the injectors needed for e85 too. I remember reading something about this being an issue.

Why would bigger injectors be needed?

Probably worth chatting to MMS about it as I understand they've dabbled with the E85 on their tarmac rally cars.
Many of the evos run a double pumper/swirl pot/surge tank too. The only issue preventing me from running E85 full time is the dealing with supply, re-fill, storage issues, etc. You do make a good point - I haven't seen many (any) E85 threads in the WRX world when compared to Mits, Datsun world.

There is a 95 page E85 FAQ on NASIOC, but from waht I can see, its mainly based on running E85 from the pump (which they have for $2 a gallon over there!!) instead of Unleaded.. so its mainly as a "stock replacement".. and thats about all you'd want to do with pump spec E85 anyway as it can be inconsistent.
Heaps of people running de-caps without an issue, but again, they're not looking at 1.6 bar through a TD06. Found this little nugget whilst flicking through the pages.. even with minimal mods it makes a difference!! Quote:
