Default Engine Build - Advice Requested

Hi All,

Not unlike Rossco's thread I am in the process of getting a short motor together, will also be doing the cam's whilst the motor is getting done.

Unlike Rossco I will not be doing the work myself, but I am in a state of 'flux' as what short motor to go for, here are my options and the quoted prices :-

2.5 Short Motor different stages

1) 250kw need std arp 11mm studs, std rods, forged pistons is $2400 for a short you supplying crank and blocks studs.

2) 300kw needs cosworth L19 studs 11mm, Argo rods, forged pistons, $3500, you supplying crank and blocks.

3) 350kw uses 14mm studs, Argo rods, forged pistons, sleeved, supplied all these parts is just under 5k.you supplying crank and blocks

The above is with me supplying the 2.5 crank which I already have and the 2.5 block.

2.1 stroker using CD block

1) block, pistons, spec c rods, drilled crank, race bearings, built $2600, you supply crank.

I guess it boils down to, do I want a torquey 2.5 or a revvy 2.1....

Would appreciate any feedback and pros and cons of each option.

cheers

If your driving a Spec C as it says in your profile go the 2.1 so it is a little more true to what a Spec C is.

^ Oh snap. I suppose the big question Gav is what the car is going to be used for, and if memory serves me right, you did speak of something in the works last time I was over, so I suppose I can go out on a limb and say it will be more of a weekend warrior than a daily bus? My own personal opinion is going down the 2.1 road, purely as I'm a fan of a revvy motor. I in no way have any fantastical theories behind it, nor anything else of that matter.

What are you going to use the 2.5 for or you just want to be another statistic?

^^Don't get you, do you mean the 2.5's failure rate, or me damaging the car (or myself)
