Exclamation Problem in cooling system

okay so i need a bit of help because this has got me puzzled.

Basically my car has been overheating... but thats just the thing it isnt actually overheating.

My temp gauge keeps on going right up so i pull over and its fine, not overheating. So the thermo fans keep kicking in but its not that hot.... and like i said the temp gauge is up but there are no warning lights that come up or anything.

Im just trying to figure out what it could be. Is there any sensors anywhere to do with the cooling. My gearbox was fixed on monday and its only ever done it since i got the car back. Never did it before in the whole time i have owned it.

Suggestions anyone?
