If anyone is chasing a 6 speed standard gear shift assembly for their conversion I have one with just 12000 km of use. It came out of my Lib.

How are short shifters these days? Worth the spend or not?

With the 6 speeds, do you find it's still same same as 5 speed to hit the 'gate' between 1st and 2nd when doing rapid changes. Do you find you're spending much more time changing gears/frustrated with close ratio 6 speeds?

Possibly things to let slip due to the toughness of the box.

How much extra weight is in the 6 speed?

Maybe stupid question, when changing gearbox/ratios, retune needed? Got a Verso atm.

Inspecting the box is nice, but still hard to judge hows it's been treated - Always kinda going on the sellers word that it's had a good life etc.
Quick question, is this gearbox oil Motul Gear Competition FF 75W140 or is it Motul FF-LSD Type 2 75W90. I thought 75W90 was a better oil to use in our gearboxes and diffs.

This replacement clutch will go alright? First time i've done the clutch on the WRX so sorry for noob spec.

That's 500 worth of clutch - Too many clutch options.

That clutch is the last thing you'd be wanting. A puk clutch will destroy your 5 speed the first time it's used in anger. Although generally 8-9 puks are 'ok' but can be fairly aggressive/shudder like.

The way to go would be a heavy duty organic solid face clutch. A good example is the exedy sports tuff, you also get all brand new parts and spigot + release bearing.

Nah, that wont be a puk clutch. $500 wont get you a ceramic puk clutch from exedy in Australia. Its just the picture Exedy uses on their "Sports Tuff" range.

Picked up 5L of redline lightweight shockproof for the box, and 1 quart of heavyweight shockproof for the rear diff. New clutch and machined flywheel going in and service all happening next week.

Gonna get all the box mounts and stuff checked when it's up on the hoist. If it's still not how i like it, then it's 6 speed time.

Maybe i'm just being anal. The box isn't really *that* bad. It's probably really good compared to others as it's had a good life. Maybe the last batch of oil that went in was shit. Don't even remember dropping the last batch of g/box oil.

That lightweight shockproof aint cheap for 5L is it.
