Hey I've got a quick question for the knowledgeable

I'm doing a 6 speed swap and I was planning on using a R160 rear diff until I can afford to upgrade it but I have just been offered a set of GC8 RA rear driveshaft which I have been told will allow me to use a R180 diff with my SF R160 rear hubs. Is this true? Naturally I want a R180 over the R160.

Another question I have is will I need to use different axle stubs to fit these shafts to a GD diff? Also would Subaru be the best place to get these stubs if I need them?

gc8 STI-RA R180 shafts will only match up to R180 hubs.

If you want to use an R180 diff with R160 hubs you need to find special hybrid shafts in Gen 4 Series 2 Liberty/Legacy GTB and 2007+ WRX.

These shafts are hard to get and usually quite expensive. So really you may as well go full R180 with the diffs, shafts and hubs.

The Liberty shafts won't work, the outer spline is different to everything else.

The last of the GD series WRX shafts will work (non STi with R180 diff fitted) if you can find them.

Or you can use the stock Forester shafts and have the inner spline changed to a R180 size. It requires cutting and re-welding.

Or just use a R160 diff, they never break when using 3.9 or 3.54;1 ratio.

the tune by STi WRX run R180 diffs, so the rear shafts will work from them as well
but rare to find them on the market
