There is no aftermarket flashing software approved by Subaru, no aftermarket ECU's either. Standard is it.
Whether the mods caused the failure or not, the fact that the car is modified is why the claim would be knocked back. Subaru warrant the car as it leaves the factory, not after a little workshop in the back streets of a city 3500km's away has finished fiddling with it.

Edit: Once again I'm not bagging MMS, I'm simply stating the facts regarding new car warranty, its in the owners manual.

But....back on topic. I would be ringing each of the workshops listed, discussing with them what you want from the engine, then letting them outline a plan for you and give you a quote. Then pick the one that most appeals to you, maybe speak to a few guys on here about work they've had done too. Performance thread FTW.

^^^Heaps of modified wrx's/STi's in Perth claimed their new car warranties and there was no dramas with them (up to 07models), so looks like they're being a bit more strict these days.

Probably because they know that with a few basic mods the 2.5's are bound to fail (quicker) haha

They are a lot stricter, we have to put in applications before we do any warranty work, and if they're not happy with the info in the application, they will ring up and interrogate us. We have to prove its warrantable.

On topic, Cosworth gear is hell expensive, there are cheaper options that will go the distance.

yes and yes

pick a turbo and giggle like a school girl

may want to think about some upgraded rotors/pads/fluid if you take the aforementioned path though

My car was only running 15.5 psi

Yeah i know the 2 liters are the way to go, just really depends on how much it would cost to get my hands on one,

Would a built 2.5 go as hard as the 2 liter, possibly better?

Why are the 2 liters better

Whats a nice turbo anyone can recommend either from using or reading up on

2.5's are known to need a ton more prep work to survive at modified power levels.

An ej207 bottom end brand new from Subaru is about 3k - many people on here have simply smashed a big turbo on, wound it up and enjoyed reliable and quick cars.

2.5 would have more torque, but the 2.2 would sort that.

Cosworth do a 2.5 short engine. Which would work if you really want to go the 2.5. Check their website. I'm not sure who the Perth agent is.

a 207 can be had for about 2500/2600 now, through amcap or a dealer willing to match the price.
i can supply one through my work also.

would there be legality issues with going down to a 2.0 litre from a 2.5 though? as the blocks are stamped ej20 not ej25 which is what is on the plates.

Also i have found that warranty is getting alot stricter on cars with modifications that come through work.

Allstar Garage is perths cosworth agent

If it was me I''d get a fairly new STi 2.0lt Twin scroll Jap spec long motor from Kris aka SKU81 on Rexnet as he brings them in all the time.

All Jap STi's except the new Auto's run a 2.0lt and not 2.5.

Only thing is they dont have the forgies like the Aus 2.0lt block but that's easily fixed.

Cheaper than a Cossie 2.5lt though.
