10k flat is with cams, the turbo should still be fine although Subaru said it was fucked but MMS strongly disagree, what's an 05 Sti worth?

I doubt your turbo is fucked. In this instance, I'd trust MMS's judgment.
A good condition 05sti can be picked up in Perth for 29-32k.

Have you actually asked mms what they can do for you yet? If you were happy with the car before it blew, then just get forged pistons put in and you'll have a reliable wrx.
If you weren't happy, then go for the cheapest option possible and get something else.
But be warned, ASG have had their fair share of blown 2.5's (including mine and a number of built motors.)

i recently inquired into headers from ASG, to supply only they were not much more expensive than wayne.
i believe the cost of 1200 is value considering the extra work they undertake to stop the gaskets blowing out. Im not going to disclose what they do, go ask them. I also think publishing a quote online poor form.

What makes you say forgies are going to make the 2.5L reliable? I've gotta disagree with you.

The MY07 "Tuned by STi" WRX had an R180 diff with hybrid R160 shafts and hubs.. I haven't looked under the bum of a betty properly, but I'd imagine it would be a similar setup.

Also, the STI piston issue's were the '08 models only, eg, the first of the GEN 3 STI's.

If the car was not modded Subaru would have paid no question.
And they're only going to get stricter regarding modified cars and warranty claims
There are plenty of cases of different failures world wide on both modded and un-modded wrxs. There are also plenty of cases where Subaru has refused warranty on un-modded cars, only to relent after a fight.

Subaru's policy on mods: "In the event of a component failure, if the modification contributes or is directly responsible for the failure, warranty will not cover the failed components. If the technicians working on the car suspect that the modification is the cause of concern, it will be investigated further."

At least make them prove that the mods caused the issue. Ultimately, if they are going to have a policy like that they need to set boundaries as to A/F, power, boost etc. or simply state clearly that any mods void warranties. They are trying to have their cake and eat it.

I would be giving it a good stab before shelling out 10k. (Unless you wanted an excuse to spend the $$$ of course!

(N.B Are you saying his tune was poor and that is the reason for the failure? Subaru wouldn't be warning anyone about anything unless it is likely to put them in big trouble. Trusting a corporation is naive)
