You probably would have to let dpi know, because your changing the engine. But because it's a smaller capacity, it shouldn't be an issue. when I did an RS conversion on my old Liberty, I didn't tell them, had no issues. Telling your insurance company is more important.

Add a 2 litre block, your 2.5 crank, aftermarket Hbeam rods, Proper forgies (cp, Je, wiseco etc), your heads with some decent cams.

2.1-2.2l stroker is the result & it'll be good for 400-450hp at the crank.

expect $7.5K for all engine internals & machining, add an extra 1k for 'while it's out I may as well' additional bits & pieces.

It should be hard to kill if it has a decent tune & attentive build.

I'd be hitting mms up to do 'parts only' rebuild for you, ie. With them covering labour. If it's only done a ringland it would probably only cost about 2g with them putting in forged pistons.
If they won't come to the party then they should stop doing any tunes on cars under warranty unless the owner signs a disclaimer releasing them from any liability.

Why are the 2.5's so weak? I though semi-closed where stronger?? I guess it depends on how quick he really wants it, I drove Brad's old car many times and I certainly wouldn't want a to daily drive a 400hp+ rex, fun on the track/strip, annoying in traffic and around town.

It's the pistons that are the main problem. Subaru use an alloy that has low expansion which means the pistons are tighter when the engine is cold, keeping emissions low. But because they won't expand, under excess heat the weakest part (ringland) will crack. Forged pistons are built to expand more when hot but are poor for cold start emissions.

It goes with the old saying "You play, You pay" unfortunately.

If you decide to mod a car then you also should accept any associated risks that come with modding and how is stopping the tuning of cars under warranty going to do anything, if something goes wrong you still have to pay for it anyway because you've voided your warranty as soon as it was touched .

Unless it's proven that it was something a workshop has done to make it happen, then your stuck with the bill.
