MY11 Sat nav overide
Hello folks, 4th post here, had a look but could not find another thread, I would like to know where/who could "overide'' my 'sat navs inability to be able to input coords whilst driving. Most of the time I use the satnav is when my wife is in the front with me and having to stop to input info is lame.
Any auto/sound specialists can do this? |

As of March 1st, the law states you can adjust GPS routes, look up stuff and even make calls from phones if they are in a holder of some kind (built in to your dash counts) so I would take it to Subaru and make them take it off, if they can!

I sure as shit don't want to be near someone entering an address on a GPS whilst driving!

you can dick with your phone on the move now (ie: answer calls . dial numbers...) why not a GPS? This is why there is such controversy with the new laws in WA... but as of March 1, they kicked in!
Most people with common sense would put the route in before taking off, or at a set of lights or something... can this be done? Or is it one of those, handbrake needs to be up, car in park kinda things? |

The satnav in my liberty requires me to be stationary to input into the satnav, I can be in gear and hand brake off, but as long as the car isnt in motion.........
I don't like the idea of being near anyone trying to operate a satnav while driving. However, the 'locking out' of entering destinations and other functions while in motion is annoying when your passenger is trying to use it. When I get the time I have every intention of finding a way to bypass it. I remember reading something a while ago on it, it was rather simple too, unfortunately I lost the link. The way I read the new laws, you cannot dial numbers, can't sms, cant enter information into a GPS etc.
You can press a button to answer though. The factory units go off GPS speed and handbrake these days, so a simple solution to edit while on the go is not so simple I have found.

In terms of the navigation unit, it may be linked with the vehicle's speed sense wiring and or the gps signal so as soon as your vehicle is in motion it disengages.
The new law basically states that you can make/ receive phone calls as long as your phone wont be touched unless it is in a cradle or a fixed mounting location. Kym, for instance when you get that bluetooth module it allows you to control your entire phonebook, missed calls and received calls from the alpine stereo. It automatically pairs your phone once you hope in the car and if you receive a phone call whilst driving it mutes the playing stereo and puts it own signal throughout the car's speakers. Effectively your phone stays in your pocket and you control everything from the stereo. EDIT: I will have a call around over the next couple of days to see if any suppliers can offer a vehicle in motion interface for subaru's.
