Different brand tyres with the same indicated width will be different in actual width... eg 235 RE55 has a 241 tread width, Dunlop 235 DZ03 is 236 tread width...etc...so best to check each manufacturers tyres chart

Wow my old thread.
Anyways, my ku36's have done 30,000kms and have served me very well (actully that's a lie, they are shit on gravel = wicked drifts haha) But I'm looking at possibly getting some Varrstoen ES 2.2.1 (te37 look alike) In matt black (love the look of them on other cars, but havent seen a subi In Perth running them) Firstly, opinions on looks on a black my05sti? I'm thinking a staged setup, maybe 9.5 on front, 10.5 on rear? I understand I might have to do a fair bit of work to get them to fit nice Currently have pretty stock suspension-but am looking at upgrading-and will do to make what I want fit But what offset? 0, 12, 15, 22, 30 Anybody have a decent link explain what fits well under STi's? (&pictures with te37 style rims on STi's?) And at this stage I'll properly get some more ku36's There good value, awesome grip, wear evenly, lasted longer than expected and are predictable - don't just let go and try kill you like some other tiers out there lol.

Offset, they are all pretty bloody low, not sure what would fit under your guards with enough strut / brake / guard clearance, particularly with 9.5" rims. EDIT: If you want to have a staggered look, try different offsets front and back. But that will limit your ability to rotate your tyres etc. I dont see the advantage. |

yeah don't have wider wheels on the rear. You will shit your diffs.

Yeah, wanted 9" rims with +44 offset but they don't do them.
Might try and search for some other rims Is a staggered setup really that bad for your diffs? Aslong as the overall diameters were similar I thought I wouldn't have that much effect

If you aren't going to run wider rubber, what's the point running wider rims? Kind of pointless exercise IMO.....

Wider rubber is different to overall diameter.
If I have staggered setup, Widder rims on rear, will obviously have wider rubber, but would be the same diameter as the front. Ie: same diameter all round The rear having wider rubber should'nt effect the rolling diameter and therefore shouldn't have any effect on the diffs. Cornering at slow speeds may affect diffs, but hey it dose already, sometimes a rear will skid a little In carparks and that, but so what, it's an STi.

Fair enough if you get the rolling diameters pretty well equal, but I still dont see the point? Its a pretty hard ask to get the exact same rolling diameter when you have a different profile tyre front and back - why risk a diff or gearbox?
And with an AWD you'd want wider tyres at the front rather than the back if the performance aspect is your thing..........but that would look stupid on a road car IMO. Or if its just for asthetics, run different offsets as I suggested earlier. |

Staggered only works for AWD cars with heavy RWD bias (i.e. 80/20 split).
As there is no performance gain, why do it?

It was kinda just for something different. But I guess if I can find a set that comes In a good range of offsets, I could try different front and back.
What's the widest one could easily run without too much work. Not sure what offsets to run now!! Any ideas?
