Hey all,

After a couple days of googling/p-wrx searching my brain is fizzling (that could be the drugs though) with varying opinions on how to increase response and torque curve from the humble td04 (not the amount of torque, just the amount of time I can hold peak torque for longer)

My car is an 06 WRX with the only engine/exhaust mods being a 3" MMS/Butler Exhaust, Walbro Pump + ECUtek tune. Here is the Dyno print-out from when I had the exhaust done (Peak torque only lasts for barley 1k between 2500-3500 rpm).



I am eventually going to call The Good Doctor Doug @ Stechnic to have a chat about it too but I thought I'd ask here first just to get more info/opinions/suggestions.

The reason I don't want to go a bigger turbo is purely because I do like the response from the td04 and with the car being 90% street driven most of my driving is done in that rpm range. Also I'm kind of wary of the 2.5L open deck + bigger turbo = dok dok

My current idea is Grimspeed BCS + CAI + Silicone Inlet Pipe + Retune (holding boost longer = larger peak torque curve??), but if I am wrong please do get your flame on.

If it can't be done (without going a bigger turbo) then this monkey will live with it

increase tension on your wastegate
more boost and let the torque taper off as the turbo chokes

Seems odd tbh.

First thing I would do is go back to MMS and discuss it with Steve. They will know what the limiting factor is and how to improve it.

This was with decap injectors (816cc), grub screw in BOV, STi TMIC, 3" Xforce TBE, a metric tonne of boost and still rolling a panel filter.



That has a longer torque curve, with about 2 bar of boost running through the little hairdryer back then. As you up the boost you get higher peak figures but more of a triangular torque curve as you are waaaay off the efficiency curves.

Since you are running ~16psi, that is right in the efficiency region, so there should be a few more rpm of torque.

In saying that, the TD04 is shit. What is the reason of chasing a longer flat torque curve? I'll be guessing on the 2.5L that is all you will be able to get.

Can someone please link me to a diy on this 'grubscrew' mod on the bov? or elaborate a bit more?

Steve told me the 3port BCS is a very viable engine mod

Remove BOV, look at the back of BOV, note hole, fill hole with grub screw.

No more safety feature

buy a vf35 if you want a responsive turbo for a daily driver imo, and just keep the boost low
