im trying to find out what year my EJ22 motor is and the specs for it.
would the engine number determain the year???

Turbo or non turbo??

look under it it will have a year date stamped

its turbo but the number reads EJ22EN1BD i thorght N/A ment non turbo im trying to upload a pic of the motor

That's the engine code not the engine number. Also, it's the code of the original engine, not the turbo engine fitted to the car now. (I assume)

Oil cap is one way to guage roughly, but it's open to easily being tampered with.

Does the engine have an alloy oil filler neck? (circa 89-91) or plastic oil filler neck? (circa 92 on)
It may even be a WRX engine or a converted twin turbo (back to single) there are ways of identifying them too.
