The Volumetric Efficiency is different between the 2.5s and 2l so ecu has to be changed.

There is no way I would swap a 207 for a 255, get a new 207 or as stated before, a 257 with pistons, it will be pretty reliable and push out very nice power.

Bugeye STI has a 207 anyway, buy a new 207 short engine, gasket set, plus 10-12 hours labour, probably about $5500-$6000 at the most.

Be a good idea to determine why the old engine failed if you don't already know. Not just what failed.

Or you could rebuild the engine in your car with aftermarket pistons, rods, bearings for about $500 more.
A reflash would allow an STI to run a 2.5, Ecutek, Verso.

John dealerships are now charging 5-6k to supply and R&R an engine these days '207'?

Did they suddenly grow a conscious

If you're getting trade prices and doing the work yourself I would agree with you though.

Yes agreed, a reflash will do the job, but will not do the best job. After forging the motor, obviously you want to chg the turbo so on and so forth. A lot of motorsport features will not be available to you on a reflash.

This guy drives his car hard LOL. (I am so glad he uses the stage 3 exedy)
But he definitely needs a forged up new motor.

But most imptly, see how your budget is and have a talk to some of the workshops and determine what suits you best.

Add to your "$3500" ej255:
labor to remove & strip old motor,
Cost to recondition the heads,
New timing belt idlers & tensioner
New oil pump
Assemble new long motor
New clutch
Reinstall engine
Verso tune ($1200??)

And then it still won't be as 'tough' or reliable as a 207.

Just ask Stubaru.

A new 207 short motor is $2600 & inherently a stronger motor for the money.

Its going in to RaceTorque tomorrow to find out what is the cause of the knocking noise... Fingers crossed it doesnt need a rebuild/new block.. Just a bearing or a valve that can be replaced... Im looking at like, 6k max to spend on that.. including fitting/labour costs.
