RS and early WRX ECUs dont have a problem not seeing boost at the MAP sensor. The one way valve trick has been used on hundreds of RS Libs without issue. I used it myself for years on my old engine no problems.
Theres something else going on here that is behaving like boost cut. But I dont think it is.

My JDM conversion into my old Lib used to hit boost cut at 16psi relative. I think thats normal.
Rossco may be right, if it's logging a code, it may enter a failsafe mode. I'm pretty sure I've seen a 97WRX with the MAP sensor hose unplugged, doing the same thing Instead of fooling the sensor, you should fit a fuel cut defender and fool the ECU instead.

Failing that, consider sparkplugs may be worn, fuel pump/pressure.
Possibly even AFM.

Joe, it copped new plugs on Friday.
This issue has been around sine I got the car, but I have never fussed because I didnt really want extra boost in it .. until now.
