Manual boost controller Help!
Sup guys,
Just wondering if someone can clear this up for me..I wanted to raise the boost on my car so i bought a TurboTech manual boost controller (set it to 15psi and seen it hold strong to redline), but I've now been told that a Manual boost controller does not 'work' on a wrx? maybe I've interpreted it wrong.. they may of been saying that you shouldn't put it on a wrx? or what ever. I do plan on getting a tune.. But can anyway can someone please tell me what the deal is. Is having a MBC on a wrx a problem?? Pros/cons? One last thing is having a standard boost control solenoid (for a 2001 bugeye) better than a manual boost controller? Cheers Guys, Matt |

MBC= Boost spikes on cold nights that MAY pop your motor, especially if it's untuned.

Depends - these days the new valves are pretty damn good.
But there is no inherrent risk unless you ask too much of your current setup.

Given the cost of a boost controller + install time + setup time, you are pretty close to getting a flash tune which will up the boost safely.
A decent boost controller set at a factory level of 14psi is ok. Winding up boost alone to say 20psi without any extra fuelling/timing etc is a disaster waiting to happen.

Factory would be better then a manual bleeder if you can afford to get your car tuned.
As it uses feedback from MAP sensor among others to adjust and control boost, eg, closed loop. Where as MBC does not, just bleeds air from wastegate line, I used to have an MBC on my car and it was fine, it just needs to be set up correctly. Like the other guys stated, don't over do it without supporting mods.

i had a nasty home-made mbc fitted by the last owner which was shit at holding boost to redline, pretty much no boost control at all
spiked at 15 psi at around 4k then died immediately off to 9 and kept falling i would think a tune or stock boost control would hold boost better to redline, but from what you've said the mbc is doing an okay job
