This is true.

The only thing that sorted it out was changing the gearbox oil to Redline Lightweight Shockproof, and after that it went into 1st no worries, at any speed!!

I've since removed the Redline and put ordinary oil in it, and it still likes going into 1st!

Was going to get it towed in the morning and pull the box out.

hmmm that doesn't sound too good.

Anyway, I park my car head into the garage which means every morning I'll have a coldstart and have to go into reverse. Reverse is particularly hard during coldstart and occassionally when the car is warm. I could be wrong probably because I have to reverse every morning where as I don't need or seldom reverse in other parking lots etc.

So recently, in the morning I tried starting the engine, I slowly shift the gear stick to the extreme right till the point it stops, I'll continue to add more pressure to the right before pulling it down into R. With this method I managed to go into R more often during first try as compared in the past where I can't get it into R the first time.

For the method above, I have no mechanical explanation for it but I hope it works.

I found it also helps if you depress the extreme left pedal...

Changed the oil yesterday. Got loads of small bits of metal on the drain plug magnet. (NOT GOOD). Gearbox seems to be working really well though. (touch wood).

See how it goes.

I was told by Steve at MMS it was something in the box spinning??? and you should wait for 20 - 30 secs before trying to select reverse or put it in first then select reverse, I remember when I used to drive his WRX it was the worst offender for doing this unless you selected first, Ive got redline in mine and it will happily go into first at 20kph and rarely has a problem with reverse so it could have something to do with the oil ( no oil wars please ).
