Sandwich Plate Question
Hi Guys,
I've just done a search trying to find the answer to my question but had no luck. I'm installing some gauges today using a Greddy sandwich plate the same as this one: I'm just wondering if there is supposed to be a gasket that goes between the sandwich plate and the block. The plate itself didn't come with one and it looks as though it is just supposed to go straight in with no gasket. Wanted to double check as I don't want to finish the job only to find I've got an oil leak and have to start again. Thanks. |

There should be an 'O' ring groove, similar to the oil filter 'O'ring, on the inside of the plate.

take note of bob's posted link to rossco's thread, sandwich plates are epic fire hazzards on subaru's due to the closeness of the headers
sell it to someone who has a datsun |

in answer to this question though, you have it the wrong way around, the o ring groove goes towrads the block, the plain side goes towards the filter, the filter will have the recess & o-ring on it

I have NFI why anyone would use a mechanical oil pressure gauge in this day and age.....split the little line to the gauge & you have an instant under bonnet bonfire...... or 100 degree 90psi oil spraying around your feet.
Sandwich plates should be left in the kitchen.........

Hi everyone,
Since I am also trying to install my sensor/gauges, I would like to share with everyone my horrible experience since none of my friends really will appreciate why I want to have the gauges installed. I got a 2nd hand of the Defi gauges + wiring + accessories......everything you need to install. I put in the sandwich plate with the sensors, turn on engine, oil spray everywhere into the engine bay.......spent an hour next cleaning it up. Realised that the rubber o-ring has hardened due to previous installation. (yes I know....please laugh at me) Just got a new rubber o-ring yesterday and will be going to do it over the weekend. After reading this post, I have mixed feelings about the plate but I don't want to fiddle around with the original sensor in the engine block. I try to attempt to ensure that it is install properly and not become a fire hazard. Any advice? And also, if possible please advise me on instructions on wiring coz that is the next thing I am going to do and hopefully I will not have another horrible experience. Please laugh and provide useful info for me. Ta Noob Ben
