Not sure if this will help but...I have also been having a hate/loathe affair with the Brant.

At first I thought it was the battery and then I realized that it is the alarm. Last night I got stranded and the RAC got me up and going again.

I had read before about disconnecting the battery and then waiting about 5-6 minutes before reconnecting the battery but the RAC tech discharged the capacitance by touching the earth battery lead to the positive. Meanwhile I sat in the car with everything turned off and held down the Zero and Star buttons on the keypad. The tech then reconnected my battery. After that, I released the two buttons and was able to run through the normal starting process. Ie key to accessories, code and then start.

I should also add that the issue I had was that the alarm was not accepting the code at first and then after a few tries, I lost all lights on the key pad.

You can do exactly the same thing by removing the inner glovebox screws. The keypad module is the small box attached to the left hand side of the stereo centre frame.

Disconnect the big white connector and press 0 and star and reconnect.

To disarm the brant module into manual mode (until you can get it to someone for repair, diagnosis or removal) , you can press the number "2" on the keypad while the 7,4,1 sequence is flashing up to force the unit into manual mode.

If you're in a MY05 -> MY01 car.. i would suggest carrying a screwdriver (if its not already included with your tools bag) for one of those moments when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and by yourself.

You can also replace the modules internal battery yourself with a few parts from "Jaycar". I might put up a howto with some images and diagrams later..
Kato and TROLLEY like this.

Thanks again. My alarm pad is a slightly smaller unit on the MY08. I do t get any scrolling of numbers. Good to know where the unit is located though.

I am really surprised that Subaru sit back and own the damage to Brand caused by the use of Brant alarm systems. Surely there is a better option.

I looked in a MY12 Sti at City and I am pretty sure it was identical to my MY08 Sti.

Yeah, want I mean is the brant alarm system stopped in the MY07 models and there is a different system in the 08+.

I'm unsure but I thought that was around the time when brant went bust.

Yeh I also heard that the system changed for the MY08+ and that they were far, far more reliable. Kremer's is the first issue we've read about on here with a MY08+ but then again I'm not sure any of us 08-12 owners have our security codes enabled.

The keypad is a little smaller than a mates MY05. The keypad sits up near the air vent near the door too rather than lower on the dash or centre console.

I rang Brant yesterday and the operator over east said it was definitely the keypad and offered to send me one in 2-3 days for $195. I asked, what if it wasn't the problem? He said it definitely was. Needless to say that it has been working properly today after the RAC reset it last night.

Takes the fun off having a new car.
