Arghhhhh. I really don't like Brant. My alarm pad has no lights on it again this morning and hence won't allow me to start the car.

I am home alone so can't reset the darn thing without someone to help out.

My usual trick is to put the battery on charge. It seems to wake up the alarm.

Any other ideas other than throw it away?

Curious why you aren't calling a Subaru dealer, Subaru specialist or a local alarm specialist?

Calling brant over east and having keypads shipped over might not solve much unless someone here has diagnosed that as the problem.

I would be visiting a dealer and asking them to diagnose or visiting an alarm specialist and changing over to a higher level system.

I have asked City Subaru and they didn't say anything at all useful. So far other than the young bloke, Blair I think (oops edit-it is Reece who is very helpful), who is really good. The rest are pretty average. I was going to buy a new Sti a year ago and package it but the salesman told me that if I bought one and put a deposit down that I could then test drive one. I am not a fan.

I might head down to Evolution R and see what they say.

Nah, I had some issues with my immobiliser locking up my car. Subaru ended up fixing it after 5 days of head scratching, but they were pretty vague when it came to details about what exactly went wrong. They tried blaming my injectors swap

Agreed, but the main reason I don't have mine enabled is because the dealer talked me out of it.

I guess it's a PITA to keep typing in the code everytime you start up? Do you have to do it even if you stall? Almost as much of a PITA as having to hit the stupid 'accept' button on the stereo!

But are there any other benefits to having it activated (apart from the small topic of theft), e.g. can you easily set rev limits when you give it to monkeys to drive. Also, I've read about the auto door locking thing when you move off - sounds like a good idea no?

Do you know how to disable the keypad given I have the smaller sized keypad in the MY08? I am guessing that I need to have the alarm turned off and functioning before I can make any changes. Cheers

No, sorry I don't. Mine was disabled from new from the dealer (City Subaru). They said they could activate it, but recommended not to. I said I'd come see them if it ever gets nicked lol.

But it sounds like it's a simple job for a dealer (or someone who knows what they're doing). Just got to get it to that person though.

Edit: I started reading the booklet that came with mine, but I got bored very quickly and put it down. But when I get home next week, I can let you know if there's anything useful in it. Others here might have access to theirs sooner?

If I can get any lights to come up on the alarm keypad then it will be my goal today. Annoyed that it is likely to cost me the price of a top mount almost to get it sorted.

That's what the dealer at Melville said to me. Talked the feature up when selling me the car, then when I bought the car and picked it up he said they can turn it on if i want but its a pain in the @rse so don't bother. He reckoned a lot of people turn it on then come back a couple of weeks later and ask for it to be disabled again.

City Subaru just told me that it is not a simple job to deactivate the keypad. They can't give a quote either but have said they will have a look. It will cost me $150 per hour for them to have a look.

Let's see where this goes.
