Default GC8 Power Understeer

Have searched for this but most posts refer to cars with stock suspension or later models.

Have HSD HR coilovers with 7/5 spring rates. Has eliminated body roll but the understeer, especially if I'm too eager with the power is bothering me.

I am wondering if anybody has tried a 22mm rear Whiteline swaybar with the stock front swaybar in a GC8 with coilovers? How did it go? Looking to balance the car out but don't want to get into lift off / snap oversteer territory.

^^ And what alignment set up?

These two factors make all the difference!

P.s I run Cusco sways - 22mm front 24mm rear - no snap.

Some no name shit tyres, previous owner had no clue. RE002's going on when I can justify them. Running -0.5 camber at the moment.

Everybody seems to rave about swaybars but wonder how much of a difference they make on a car that has coilovers, everything seems very tight now? Also wondering if it is good bang for buck running the stock front with 22 rear instead of doing both since car is stiff already..

Cheers

I would change your tyres first.....
Then set the rear coilies slightly stiffer then the front.
Don't underestimate swaybars, they make a massive difference to the way the car handles.
I've fitted a 22mm Whiteline rear to an otherwise standard 02 WRX and it transformed the car, it turned in with no understeer and could get on the power earlier.
But Rossco's setup is the usual, 24mm rear, 22mm front.

The best set up car will understeer if you are quote "to eager" with the power.

It's heading into winter and the roads are currently slippery as furk.
Justify them.

I remember running some no-names that came with a set of wheels I bought (second hand). I replaced them less than a week later; it was scary driving on cheap tyres!

I'm running the RE002s as street tyres and they've been impeccable on both dry and wet roads. Impeccable I say!!

better tyres, get your alignment done at a real workshop (Wheels world, Brigestone Bentley etc) rather than bob jane, do a DTEC and learn to drive.... and then do swaybars

Yep, I hear you gents. New tyres and alignment are part of the plan in the near future. Existing tyres have the advantage of being payed for however and are fine so long as I'm not driving like a muppet so was going to get sway first..

Would an adjustable 22R on hard and 22F on soft be roughly equlivent to the conventional 22/24 setup in terms of handling balance?

Do you do any track work?

If not i would just smash a 24mm in the rear and not worry about the front.

In terms of allignment i would go for -2 on the front, -1.5 on the rear and about 1mm of toe out on the rear.

Also what have you got the ride height set at? GC8's dont take kindly to being dumped if you want them to handle.
