Took it back to the shop where the work had been done they apologised re-aligned the car and fixed no charge.
Knocking now gone. Not pissed off anymore.
Thanks Nick will check that out too

Did a search this the most relevant thread that came up.

-how much of a mission is it to rectify a leaking front cv on a 2004STi?
don't think it would be that much
trouble is, i may have bigger issues, it seems the the front of the box/front diff, are off center causing the left front cv issues - and very noisy when driven.
(its worth noting this noise appeared after a workshop replaced clutch/flywheel/mounts-(not going into that story))

Basically, has anyone else had similar issues/know of fixes before a take it to a workshop? I would rather go in with a bit of knowledge/few different ideas of what needs to be done to rectify, so i don't look like as much of a dick, and so i know I'm not being taken for a ride.

(any links etc would be appreciated!)

Also worth noting that your car was left at the front gate of my workshop one night 18 months ago with a clutch that had no drive whatsoever. The friction disc had completely exploded and the flywheel was non recoverable. Also worth noting was your request not to mention the abuse evident on the original clutch when your mother paid the account. The transmission noise was evident and noted on your invoice at the time. At that time you advised us that you had exhausted your funds. The transmission was not (and cannot) be damaged in the way you keep implying by a clutch replacement procedure. Another reason why you have constantly declined my offer to inspect and advise on the fault at no charge.

I'm sick of you implying that we caused damage to your car without showing any evidence whatsoever. We do hundreds of clutches every year. It's time you admitted to doing heli's and you rooted the front diff at the same time you blew the lining off the clutch.
