Try loosening the top nylocs with a 2mm gap. You will need a 12mm socket or spanner.

Well, I've had my mechanic and myself take a look under the car, he loosened/tightened every bolt that could cause a clunk like mine and still no diagnosis, He says it is possible that it is my front right shock absorber, however not 100%. If it isn't I have no idea what it could be.

He says that whatever has happened has likely been caused by the suspensions fully extending when on the hoist a few weeks ago when my car was serviced, no idea what has happened, but if anyone else has had something similar happen then let me know.

My hunch is that the spring may be the cause or a shock mount or something shock related haha, previous owner did replace the springs with Lower King Springs, no idea if this has anything to do with what I am experiencing, but maybe the spring has adjusted its position when the suspension was fully extended..... who knows...

Default Clunking

Reviving an old thread in an attempt to stop my clunking issue......

Similar to the OP I have a serious clunking in the front end of my GC8 CSE4. It clunks while turning the wheel while stationary and during normal driving. Now has started when light braking and going over slight bumps.

I initially thought control arms so had them replaced but the clunking still exists. I have searched loads of threads and google and have tried many of the suggestions (synthetic grease to the sway bar bushes, spray other joints with WD40 etc) Had it on a hoist and nothing clashes while steering. I have an adjustable Whiteline sway bar, King springs, ALK, H-Brace and strut top brace. It started not long after fitting the H-brace. It has seen many track days etc so the suspension gets a work out.

The most common issue on here seems to be the end links. I had a look and they appear to be the original ones. (not sure why the previous owner went to town with all the other gear without upgrading the end links...)

Can anyone please throw any other suggestions out there or whether it would definately be the end links.

Cheers all

Linc, I suggest you give Chrispy a call...he had a similar issue with his V6 STi and finally tracked down the problem...

My Betty developed a mysterious inconsistent knock in the front end on both sides after having good quality coilovers installed with full alignment etc.
I got pissed off and had a look underneath and noticed both my steering rod locking nuts were loose and had moved along the threaded part of the rod. When I jacked the car up you could actually shake the wheels and feel the knock/play.
Took it back to the shop where the work had been done they apologised re-aligned the car and fixed no charge.
Knocking now gone. Not pissed off anymore.
