well it is, but it's not overdoing it. Plenty of 280 odd hp 205's running around... just require that extra bit of maintenance.. I'd be interested to know how much oil is in the car when you drain it.. if there is any left and it hasn't pissed out somewhere.

I had only serviced the car 1500-2000km ago so it should have had plenty of oil. And in my whole ownership of the car it never used oil. It never needed top-ups between services.

I can't see any reputable shop doing the job that cheap.

Assuming the mechanic wants to pass the engine on at trade (his cost, no other industry I know of does this) then they're still close to $3k bare.

There's gaskets, seals, cylinder head facing (at a bare minimum, possibly valve seats, stem seals, tappet setting) Oil pump overhaul (I'd renew it as it's munched metal) Timing belt (possibly the timing idler kit) Oil, filters, coolant and labour.

Then there's all the "while we're doing it" stuff like injector cleaning, radiator cleaning, clutch, flywheel machining, coolant and fuel hoses.......etc.

New 207 I would say upwards of $6k installed. A secondhand running engine from a wrecker's yard would be the $3.5k (installed) option I would think.
muggz and RUSSGT like this.

No oil leaks anywhere oil levels still full and no apparent leaks anywhere, engine bay looks visually the same as before. Fuck time to save car might be off the road for a while how much if I went for a version 7 Sti ej207 short block ?

Just spoke to my mechanic he said at minimum the blocks gone and will have to open it up to see how bad it is but, he said from the sound of it it's not promising time to jump on the roof and hood ?
