I wouldn't say it kills. My opinion is that unless you really think you need its claimed benefits then use a conventional synthetic oil.

ie; In a 6MT you would be better off with an oil that can freely circulate and flow in and around better than the sticky shockproof. Durability of the tooth faces is not an issue on the 6 speed, you're probably better off having an oil that will cool the bearings better.

Arguably on the 5 speed you need all the help you can get. Years ago Shockproof was the only option. There are now others that I believe are as good, cheaper, don't stink as bad and will drain out when serviced. (I cannot stand the smell of the stuff)

Im not sure it's oil's fault, but I just change mine with syntrax(tranny) and multitrax(diff). shifting feel improved significantly, especially diff. It could be new oil better than old filth.

I use a product called Traxon, it's a full synthetic 75/90 and I've been using it for a couple of years in my competition cars and it's satisfied me that it's good. All turbo manual cars get it in my workshop. I'm not saying it's the be all and end all of synthetic gear oils, but it's what I sell and recomend.

Edit; It's good value for money too at ~$90/refill

Multitrax is sufficient. There are no known durability problems with those boxes. The argument for spending an extra fifty bux or so on sythetic would be improved shift especially cold.
