Default Wheel Bearing Issue

Last week my front left wheel started making noises. After about 10mins of driving i could hear a squeaking noise (kind of like the noise a mouse running on a wheel makes). It wasnt very loud while driving but alot louder when coming to a stop. So i jacked up the car and I could move the wheel quite easy back and forth.
From what ive heard this means the wheel bearing is gone. I just called up a workshop in perth and they are saying if its moving then the Hub might be gone as well. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm this? Could it just be the bearing? Or is it the hub because the wheel can be moved?
Just trying to get a idea of what it could be so I can have the right amount of cash ready to fix it.

I have never herd a wheel bearing squeak, sounds to me like glazed or shitty pads, pads are worn to indicator, or a clip from your calipers has fallen behind the disc and is making a horrible noise.

Hmm maybe a brake pad is making the noise. Ill have to check. Although i can still move the front left wheel back and forth, which shouldnt move at all? From what ive read it means the wheel bearing is gone.

Check the big nut that holds the bearing in place on the hub....it should be tight...it also should have a keyed retainer nut over it....the squeeking noise may be the brake pads if there is movement of the hub....you'll probably be getting pad knock-off too.

you mean the wheel rotates back & forth? it should do that

usually busted bearing will be associated with a hum or grinding noise, if its a light scraping noise as chris said it is probs worn out pads hitting the wear indicator

At low speeds it did start to make a grind noise, but made a squeaking noise when driving along. What Nauli said sounds about right. Maybe while driving its hitting the brake pads because of the hub movement.
When i said back and forth, i meant toward me, not the normal rotation of the wheel.
So is it possible for the big nut that holds the hub to come loose? Ill have to check that. Hopefully its something that simple lol.
The noise didnt change on corners. I could take left and right corners without hearing anything different. The noise was loudest when going slow in a car park.

Breaking Heavy or feathering them doesnt seem to change any noises. Tried different types of breaking and cornering to spot the direct problem but no noises came up.
Also the noise only starts maybe 5mins after driving. So it needs to get a bit hot first before the noise happens. The noise was loud and sounded bad when pulling into a car park at the train station. Driving along sounds like a low squeak noise, driving very slow when parking made the loud grinding noise.

take it to doug at stechnic, he will diagnose it properly for you, he also won't charge you for a new hub if you don't really need one (unlike most workshops) defo sounds like a wheel bearing problem to me
