Default reset odometer legally?

i have a my00 gc8 with standard wrx odometer currently showing 143,000kms.. I am putting in a new engine and 6 speed with dccd and i was thinking it would be nice to also buy a sti cluster with the dccd pattern so I know where it is at. Similar to this:

JDM Impreza GC8 GF8 WRX STI Version 4 IV DCCD Gauge Cluster EJ20K Turbo Subaru | eBay

How do i got about kms? Is there somebody who can reset and install the sti cluster legally with 0kms. It would be good to get a receipt saying the old cluster was removed with 143,000 amount of kms and new one installed with 0kms. Therefore I will easily know how many kms are on the engine, and when i need to service it, and also if i add the 143,000kms to it, I can know how many the chassis has traveled. And then prove that the kms are legitimate when the time comes to sell..

Cheers

i have a feeling that cluster you posted wont fit your gc, you will need the cluster with the three green plugs so thats version V and VI only, thought you should know that in case you were gonna buy that cluster you posted.

Ive changed mine to the jdm ra cluster and just recorded the kms for services etc, as long as i know they are legitimate myself i couldnt care less im pretty sure ive seen someone do a reset on a cluster on rexnet tho!

There are shops that can update the replacement cluster to your current kms. That is the only legal thing you can do.

I've never used any of these places, but they say they can do instrument cluster repairs. Give them a call and if you find someone, post it up for others to use.

Automotive Instruments, Australia, Britax, VDO, Murphy, Tecsis Instruments & Gauges
Speedline Instruments
EFI Auto Parts - ECU Repair Service
vdo gauges tachometer smiths chronometric marine speedometer instrument repairs dials speed limiting (In Vic though)

AISAT will reset to current km's. Get them to record the k's on the invoice & keep this with your log book. This will be your proof of km's on the vehicle when it comes time to sell.

That cluster you have a link to won't go into a MY00. As mentioned above, the ones you need have green connectors.

THIS has pics of the green plugs on the back of the clusters you're looking for.

I used AISAT and they were good, although as per the other posts that was only to current chassis kms. Only way I could see you winding up with 0 kms is to buy a new cluster.

Or buy the machine from eBay UK, they used to sell them years ago and they did any digital speedo to whatever km's you want.

With any speedo change you must legally tell the new owner what the correct chassis km is on the sale of the vehicle.......I don't see why you can't go to Subaru and buy a new speedo with 000km on it if your old one shits itself and have it recorded........if it can be read.
