Default 1/4 mile sleeper...

Hey guys & girls...

Got an idea, just wanted to throw it around for some advice from the gurus...

Been thinking for some time to get maybe a rwd small car of some sort (old Corolla perhaps?) and twin-charging it to go down the 1/4... might be easier if I got one turboed from factory and adding a supercharger, but looking at budget also, & since my son is now a qualified mechanic with a keen interest in Jap performance cars, maybe a father/son endeavour comes to mind.

Anyone been down this road? Any advice/suggestions?

Cheers

The guys on Mighty Car Mods did a similar project with a Cressida. Might be worth a look? http://youtu.be/-P52gGHPzSQ

Small turbo charged factory car. Mk1 MR2 comes to mind.

But as its a drag car, torque it the big thing getting you off the line. Thought electric in a light weight Jap shell?

Thanks for the link... luv the comedic attitude of the guys... haven't watched part 2 yet...

However, just to make it clear, I'm looking at twin charging with a single turbo, not so much twin turbo.

Wonder if a 7M would fit? They can be had for quite cheap & after a re-do of the head gasket, maybe some internals, might this be a goer?

...my idea isn't based around a small car, but would still rock! If I was to go for a sedan / sleeper and didn't want a JZX100 then this would be my solution.

Get a Toyota Cressida for cheap cheap cheap, get a 1JZ (or 2JZ if you have extra $$$) halfcut, try to source one with a decent auto box / LSD (Supra, JZX100, Aristo), same goes for front brakes and then assemble.

It has been done plenty of times before so most of the tricks and tips for the conversion are well documented.

If you still have money left to splash then remove the stock Twin Turbo, fit a big single, FMIC, Exhaust, High Stall and tune to suit.

At this stage drag radials will likely be warrented

Twin charging is cool but for the extra complexity and cost I can't see the point. Also the 2JZ > 1JZ > 7M... 7M isnt worth the hassle

Thanks Dan... would fitting a SC after all that be a big issue? I'm thinking also that a low end spool-up single might be in order to take over from the SC at the time it's needed.

Got any links?
