In all honesty I zoned in on the rims and then went inside to collect some new shoes.
Didn't look as bad as mine is at the moment

Your teins are height adjusted via the lower perch/preload collar, its the way Tein made it..different coilovers go about it differently.

I agree with Nick in saying that adjusting the lower spring perch on any coilover will affect the height too as well as whatever one is trying to achieve in preload etc

Teins are height adjusted by spring perch, BCs/HSD/D2/MCA- not via spring perch. Tein SS seems to be the only one where adjusting the lower perch doesn't affect preload, must be the design.
As a general rule I wouldn't touch the preload/lower spring perch on anything else but Teins unless I know exactly what handling I'm looking for in messing around with it, loosen it too much in a non tein and it could unseat the spring over a bump or could do for very unpredictable handling from what I've read on the other coilover brand websites.

Yup we're all talking about the same thing...lower spring perch aka spring preload collar aka lower locking ring which supports the perch aka spring preload nuts.

edit: my new coilies should be here in 2 weeks

I got the car up and had a look again this afternoon and its the actual bottom rings coming loose and the strut moving into the lower bracket and lowering the car, so I obviously wasn't getting them tight enough.

I've set it all back up again and have done it as tight as I possibly can, hopefully it holds on.

Loctite.

You want to remedy that shit rapidly mate. Lower shock body rotating that much could lead to premature failure of shock internals.
