Hi guys

A friend of mine has this knocking sound coming from his EJ205 in his Liberty:

Any idea what it is? The sound goes away if the engine is revved past 3k rpm. There is no overheating issue. When my friend checked the oil level, he said the oil seemed abit too watery.

Had similar sound on the liberty i had as a loan car, was told the oil feed pipe was blocked that supplied the tappets or lifters if i can remember.... Give the engine a good flush n clean oil, may do the trick.

Does the noise die down when the fluids are all warmed up.

Sounds like worn tappets. The tappets start to crack and deteriorate and the oil gets though the minute cracks when the engine is cold. Once warmed up the tappets expand with the heat due to them being rubber or what ever they are made off and stops the oil escaping.
If the noise doesn't go away when warmed up they need to be replaced.
Speaking from experience from my old Mitsubishi FTO's. It's an expensive job.

Might've put the wrong oil in. What oil is in there and how many kms has the engine done
