What about time frame for those sort of rebiulds? Like from the time you drop the keys off to the time you pick them up? Just an estimate of course

Around 6-8 weeks seems the norm. Usually many unforseen circumstances crop up.

ah, thanx. Thought it would take a while. I actually imgained it could take longer and probably would with "unforseen circumstances."

Option 1.
Fit a second hand imported jap motor. This will take 2 days minimum, drive in drive out. Want a warranty on the engine? If its stuffed and you need to exchange it then you pay your mechanics labour twice. how much is that I hear you ask...
Labour to swap engines will be 16hrs x $65/hr = $1040 +oils, fluids and seals, plus the engine some where between $2500 to $7000 with fries and a thick shake

Option 2.
Building an engine should take time, so you get to see and enjoy every stage No need to rush it, 4 weeks to a year sounds good to me.
To fit some forged pistons alone would see the car off the road for a week, then running it in...

Depending on how competent and honest your mechanic is will determine how many unforseen circumstances you encounter. If you choose your mechanic carefully these problems can be kept to a minimum...its the second engine rebuild within a year that hurts

ej207, about the only motor to go and no need to play with aftermarket gear in it as its already strong as. If u have the money 2.2 would be nice too

=$3600 ??
Sub Total =$5600 + gasket kit.

Labour breakdown:
30 hours @ $65/hr for the $2k in labour:
6 hours to remove and strip accessories / heads and cams?
16 hours to assemble long motor???
8 hours to refit and debug things like the starter motor fitment, block the extra breather line?
Excludes custom tune.
