The Hill Start Assist feature wont have caused the issue. It is controlled by the VDC and only holds the car approx 3-4 seconds, or once the brake pedal is released

i agreee with sensei doug.. there so not designed for it. i used to have to revmatch the 6 puck exedy on downshifts or it'd shudder and jolt the driveline. mainly 3rd to 2nd. never had to with a full face. current rex has the most civilised clutch since my first one in my first rex.. i like it.. enough bottom end power in this car to get nice launch with no dumping of revs. last one would have no decent boost till 4000..

If a launch takes off 10,000 Km I better order one for post Racewars.

So I have a relatively positive update. Subaru Australia are supplying a new clutch as a gesture of goodwill, and the dealership has agreed to significantly reduce the labour costs as they were not upfront about the potential for costs when I took it in, and fit the short shift kit including all bushings for a very small additional cost.

I've accepted this on the basis that getting an independent mechanical report would cost more than my contribution, and I would have to shell out $1300 for a replacement clutch anyway with no guarantee of getting that back.

So thanks to Subaru for at least meeting me part way!

Given what you usually get from dealers, that's a good result

The saga continues - got my car back Friday afternoon, hopped in it and looked on the passenger floor to find a box full of Cobb Tuning bushings... took the box back in to the mechanic who told me he hadn't needed to use these as 'the originals fit straight back in!' and the Cobb ones wouldn't fit anyways. He was genuinely pleased to tell me this.

After a quick trip up to Prospeed Racing to re-confirm fitment, I returned to the dealership to discover the mechanic had only watched the first Cobb video on the short shifter install and not the second one immediately under it, titled 'Front and Rear Shifter Bushing Install Instructions' or something equally obvious. Turns out he had been trying to fit the bushings somewhere around the top of the shifter - no idea where.

Anyways car is re-booked for Thursday morning. After that I'd rather do it myself but it was included in the deal for the clutch so they can waste their own time doing it and I'll get it checked afterwards.

@thehowlfactor - Manny is pretty much spot on there! (Love that show by the way).

We'll see how we go on Thursday. If they had done it at the time the transmission is out it would have taken 10 minutes.. now it's going to take about 45.

Clutch feels extremely light, which suggests to me that the clutch damage may have occurred in the first 20k kms with the previous owner as it has never felt like this in the time I've owned it.
