Default HELP: CEL issues

Hey,

So I have had a check engine light since Sunday and thought I would investigate today after it decided to hang around.

The details:
2001 Forester GT
CEL fault code is constant fast flashing (knock sensor)

I'm not too fussed about the car so I'm not really interested in replacing parts and spending money ect.

I am just having trouble clearing the code as from what I can see I only have the two green connectors and don't have the black ones to clear it.

I have tried leaving battery off for about an hour with no luck.

Do I have to do anything more to clear it or will it never clear until I replace the knock sensor or fix the problem?

I've added a photo of where the two black connectors should be.

Oh and I thought I would add that I have had this problem before but the light cleared after about 36-48 hours

Knock sensor is not something you want to leave too long...

Pretty cheap via ebay:

Or a 'genuine' one from ebay

Codes will not clear if the cause is still present.

The black connecters are behind the green connectors in your pic?

Hmm might swap it with the one from the WRX we got on the weekend?

Have you checked the code? Usually a fast flashing CEL means the car is in D-check mode, eg, the green connectors are plugged in.
A fast flashing CEL does not mean knock sensor fault.
The green connecotrs are not for checking codes.
To check a code, you plug in the black connectors and count the flashes, knock sensor code is 22.
To clear the code, you plug in the green ones and the black ones at the same time.
All other times they should be unplugged

Hey,

Thanks for this,

I have had a good look around and the black conectors either dont exist or have been altered as the plugs/conectors on them do not match up.

I might try crossing them manually.

Hey, Bit more of a question on this one,

Would a faulty knock sensor cause the engine to hesitate when coming onto boost and not accelerate properly?

I think MAF (AFM) problems can cause this?

I have a cable, laptop and software to read fault codes and real time data on MY99/00 GC8's, if you want to hook it up and go for a drive? I'm free all day today (Friday) till about 4pm this arvo.

Hey Matt,

I would love to take you up on the offer but im stuck at work :/

I cleaned the AFM with some contact cleaner about a week or so ago that didnt help at all, I guess I have to bite the bullet and get a new one :/ last I checked they're like ~$200.

Unless you're free during the weekend matt?
